Back in the summer of 1944, the hedgerows of Normandy became a claustrophobic battleground, and sitting right in the thick of it was this Panther Ausf. G, identified by the number 135 on its hull. Although the specific unit history for this tank is lost to time, it operated during the intense fighting following D-Day, using the dense bocage to its advantage against Allied armor. The crew of 135 would have utilized the Panther's mobility and firepower to hold the line in a defensive war, turning the narrow French lanes into dangerous choke points for the advancing forces.

This particular machine was a prime example of the Ausf. G, the final and most numerous production variant that started rolling out in March 1944. It featured the rough, paste-like Zimmerit coating on its exterior, a factory-applied measure designed to prevent magnetic anti-tank mines from sticking to the armor. With its red turret number 135 outlined in white and the standard Balkenkreuz, it packed the high-velocity 75mm KwK 42 gun, a weapon that gave it a distinct reach and punch advantage over most of its contemporaries on the battlefield.
