The battle for Iwo Jima was among the bloodiest in the Pacific Theater, with Mount Suribachi serving as a critical vantage point for Japanese defenders. On the fourth day of the struggle, a group of Marines and a Navy corpsman ascended the peak to replace a smaller flag with a larger one, a moment captured by Associated Press photographer Joe Rosenthal. This event provided a significant morale boost to the troops below and became an immortalized image of American determination against fortified positions.\n\nThis is a full diorama set that faithfully recreates the historic second flag raising. The set includes 6 Marines in the famous hoisting formation, 1 combat photographer with a Speed Graphic camera, and 2 additional Marines standing watch; the collection is rounded out with a textured volcanic rock rubble base and a separate rocky ground piece for the observers.
