After securing the rights to a Ukrainian state photo archive by traveling to Kiev with a translator, a bodyguard and several thousand used U.S. dollars, Will Fowler presents a striking visual chronicle of the Eastern Front, 1941–1945. The book is composed entirely of previously unseen images taken and captioned by Red Army photographers, offering ground‑level perspectives of Soviet soldiers and ordinary men, women and children across epic battles and campaigns—from Operation Barbarossa and the sieges of Stalingrad and Leningrad to Kursk, Kharkov and the advance into Germany—against the backdrop of a conflict that cost almost 30 million lives and left Poland, European Russia and Germany in ruins.
Published by MBI (first published 2001) as a pictorial history and photographic album, Eastern Front: The Unpublished Photographs, 1941–1945 (ISBN 9780760311165) is notable for its extensive black‑and‑white wartime photographs with original Red Army captions, its organization around major operations and thematic sections, and the rarity and provenance of images never before seen in the West—features that enhance both its historiographical value and appeal to collectors and history enthusiasts.

New: Fresh Out of Bootcamp
Flawless and untested. This book is in pristine, new condition and ready for its first assignment.
Like New: Light Combat Experience
Almost new and in great shape. It has clearly been read before and is ready to fight again, but it shows very little wear from its time in the field.
Good: A Few Scars or Shell Shock
A reliable veteran. The book might have some bent corners or a dust cover with a few scratches, but it’s still sturdy and standing tall.
Fair: Battle-Hardened
Visible signs of a long campaign. Expect some stains, bent pages, and perhaps some minor tears on the cover. It’s seen the trenches, but the intel inside is still solid.
Poor: Survived Iwo Jima
This one has been through the meat grinder. It carries noticeable damage, heavy staining, or significant wear—but like any old soldier, it would love to be read one last time before it retires.
